Welcome

Welcome to Eclectic Farmhouse. I am Jennifer Blue and this is my life....or at least a part of it.

I live in Mansfield, Ohio where I work and blog. Most often, Mansfield is known for having a prison. Not always the thing you want your town to be known for. The Historic Reformatory was the location of the filming of "The Shawshank Redemption" along with many other movies and it's a frequent haunt of those who like haunted buildings.

I have enjoyed many lives and careers from working for a non-profit community based agency, to selling shoes ( I still have a fascination with great shoes), freelance writing, professional chef and most recently, a wine bar manager. I even worked for a company that sold toilet paper.

I love cooking, entertaining, all things crafty, painting and genealogy. I find most things interesting and love to learn about new things.

I started Eclectic Farmhouse as an off-shoot to a food blog that I was writing because my interests are too vast to be contained by one genre. I wanted to blog about all the cool things and people in my life not just food. Eclectic seemed to capture it all.

The farmhouse part stems from the fact that we - my husband Michael and I - live in a 1925 farmhouse style home. This is the very house that I grew up in. We love to mix it up with antiques, modern and rustic all rolled into one creative and comfortable home.

There's just one thing - our farmhouse isn't in the country. It's smack in the middle of a rustbelt town that's trying to reinvent itself. We have neighbors within ten feet of us on either side. It's amazing to be a part of a community trying to revitalize but it also brings it's challenges and frustrations.

Through Eclectic Farmhouse we hope to bring you a glimpse into our lives as we seek to live a life that embraces the simplicity of the past while trying to maintain our balance in the modern world.

Coping During Trying Times
